The KTMMOB Chamber of Architects is organizing the eighth edition of the Space Narrative Writing Competition, which has become a well-established tradition. Enriched by the experience of dedicated jury members and the contributions of newly appointed members, the competition has continued to create opportunities for meaningful encounters between architecture and literature since its inception in 2018.

This year's jury consists of Onur Olguner, President of the Chamber of Architects; Devrim Yücel Besim; Müge Cengizkan, Editor and Curator; Neşe Yaşın, Poet and Writer; Prof. Dr. Suha Özkan; Halil Duranay, Director of Arkhe; and Gencay Çubuk, winner of the 2025 competition. Ezgi Şaker will serve as the competition rapporteur.

Architecture and literature offer different yet complementary ways of understanding and interpreting space. A diary, letter, or story can preserve and convey the traces of a building, a city, or everyday life to future generations. Building upon this relationship, the Space Narrative Writing Competition aims to encourage the expression and sharing of emotions, experiences, and knowledge associated with space through writing. By bringing together participants from different disciplines within a shared narrative platform where architecture and literature intersect, the competition seeks to enrich collective memory.

The official language of the competition is Turkish, and submissions must be written in Turkish. Reflecting the belief in the multidisciplinary nature of spatial and environmental design, the competition is open to graduates who are citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) or the Republic of Türkiye and are registered members of a professional chamber affiliated with KTMMOB or TMMOB. Student members are not eligible to participate.

• First Prize: 50,000 TL

• Second Prize: 35,000 TL

• Çelen Mirata Birkan Award: 25,000 TL (Established in honor of Çelen Mirata Birkan, winner of the 2020 competition)

The winner of the competition will be entitled to serve as a full jury member in the subsequent edition of the Space Narrative Writing Competition.

• Submission Deadline: 26 February 2027

• Announcement of Results: 7 April 2027

• Award Ceremony: May 2027 — The exact date will be determined by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Architects.

We invite everyone who reflects upon “space” or the “spatial environment” and translates their thoughts, experiences, and interpretations into written narratives to participate in this competition, subject to the eligibility requirements.
